Weather and clothing
Climate change: Zhangjiajie belongs to the subtropical monsoon humid climate, abundant rainfall, mountainous weather changes fast. Summer (June to August) is hot and rainy, it is recommended to wear short sleeves, shorts, and carry rain gear; Spring and autumn (March to May, September to November) temperature difference is large, need to prepare long-sleeved clothes and thin coats; Winter (December – February) is cold, wear warm clothes and non-slip shoes.
Sun protection: Regardless of the season, sun protection (sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses) and rain gear (raincoat or umbrella) are essential items.
Wild animal
Wild monkeys: Wild monkeys are common in the scenic area. Do not feed, touch or provoke them. Monkeys are sensitive to plastic bags and shiny objects, which may be mistaken for food and grab them.
Keep your distance: Avoid wearing bright clothes such as red to avoid irritating the monkey. When passing through the monkey area, please carry your backpack firmly and do not carry plastic bags or take out food.
Mode of transportation
Scenic area environmental protection car: Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and other scenic spots are prohibited to drive, you need to take environmental protection car or ropeway. Green car route is complex, it is recommended to plan the tour route in advance.
Urban area to scenic area: From Zhangjiajie urban area to scenic area can choose taxi, bus (such as No. 4) or tourist bus. Food and accommodation recommended by taxi drivers should be carefully considered.
Ticket reservation
Traffic restriction policy: Peak season (April to October) scenic spots are restricted, it is recommended to book tickets 3 days in advance on the official website (such as “Zhangjiajie Tourism”) or third-party platforms (such as Ctrip, Qunar network).
Real-name ticket purchase: you need to fill in your real personal information when purchasing tickets, and show your ID card for verification when entering the park. Tickets are usually valid for 4 days and allow multiple entries.
Local customs and taboos
Tujia taboo: The Tujia do not use dog meat to entertain guests, consider it impolite. Avoid sitting and lying on the threshold, especially the threshold of the hall, which is regarded as a holy place.
Dining etiquette: The group meal is mainly spicy (wax), if there is a diet or special requirements need to inform the guide in advance. Chopsticks should not be placed as a cross after a meal, and should be placed next to the bowl.
