1. The Classic 'Qixiong Ruqun' (High-Waist Gown)

This is arguably the most iconic and romantic look of the Tang Dynasty. The ‘Qixiong Ruqun’ (齐胸襦裙) features a high-waisted skirt tied above the bust, paired with flowing sleeves and often a translucent ‘Pibo’ (披帛 – silk shawl). This style creates a beautifully elongated, ethereal silhouette, perfect for capturing the poetic grace of a Tang court lady.

For our male clients, the ‘Yuanlingpao’ (圆领袍 – Round-Collar Robe) is the definitive look of the era. This robe was the standard attire for scholars, poets, and high-ranking officials. Paired with a traditional ‘Futou’ (幞头 – cap), this costume conveys intelligence, refined authority, and the high status of the Tang elite.

Seamless, Stress-Free, and So Fun

I did a Qing Dynasty Photoshoot with them and everything was amazing. From scheduling to the actual day, communication was timely and easy. I also asked for an English translator, and Lily was so helpful! She met me at a predetermined location and came with me to get ready for the photoshoot. She made sure I felt comfortable with my makeup and the outfit. Next, we did the photoshoot and she helped translate between me and the photographer. 5 out of 5 would do it again!

An Unforgettable Experience

I’ve done a shoot before at one of those walk-in studios, and this experience with China Explorer Tour was on a completely different level. The hanfu outfits were gorgeous and clearly higher quality. The makeup was elegant, not exaggerated. And the photographer’s work? Just stunning. These photos look like magazine editorials. Honestly, the price is SO worth it for the quality you get.

I Only Booked One Outfit… Ended Up Doing Two!

I originally planned to just try one Hanfu look — but once I arrived and saw all the stunning outfits, I couldn’t resist. I ended up doing two completely different sets: one in a regal empress gown and the other in a playful princess (gege) style. The photographer was amazing — she picked two totally different locations to match each outfit’s vibe, and helped me get into character for both. It didn’t feel like just a shoot — it felt like acting out a historical fantasy. I’m so glad I went for both looks!

The entire experience takes about 3-4 hours, including makeup, hairstyling, dressing up, and the photo session itself.

We offer a wide range of costumes from different Chinese dynasties, including:

  • For men: Feiyu robes (Flying Fish), Jinyiwei (Embroidered Uniform Guard), Prince, A Ge (Royal Brother), Eunuch, Emperor, and more.
  • For women: Ming Dynasty attire, Gege (Princess) outfits, Empress, Dowager Empress, Warring States robes, and many others. You can choose your preferred style on the day of the shoot!
