The journey from Mudanjiang city to China Snow Town takes about 2 to 3 hours by road on snowy mountain passes. While public buses exist, they can be crowded and infrequent. Therefore, the safest and most comfortable way to explore is by booking a private car or a tour package. This gives you the freedom to stop for photos of the breathtaking white landscapes whenever you wish and ensures you stay warm and safe on the icy roads.

The best time is from mid-December to February. During this period, the snow is deepest, the “snow mushrooms” are fully formed, and the festive atmosphere is at its peak. Avoid Chinese New Year if possible to skip the biggest crowds.
Snow Town is very popular, and main streets can be commercial. You can take a high-speed train from Harbin to Mudanjiang (about 1.5 hours), and then transfer to a car for Snow Town. Alternatively, many travelers choose a private car transfer directly from Harbin to Snow Town (approx. 5-6 hours), often stopping at Yabuli Ski Resort along the way.
It is extremely cold! Temperatures can drop to -20°C to -35°C (-4°F to -31°F). You must pack thermal underwear, heavy down jackets, waterproof snow boots with good grip, and warm accessories (hats, gloves, scarves).
